It was nice again today and we got up a bit earlier to ride street around Brighton. We started the day off where we ended yesterday and came across some rad spots. We ended up riding this curb on a pier, right next to the big Brighton pier and it was one of those sessions that just wouldn’t end… over an hour on a curb… Always fun. We kept moving and Gary came across this wild wallride over a rail on a slant back and over a big stair gap. He slid out on the landing the first go, but stuck it clean on the second. We kept moving and rode a ledge that was kind of tall and super short, so when Kym went to smith it, he only had his front peg on for like 2 inches! ha… it didn’t work out so well, so he did a quick manual and we moved on. The next spot was this nice big wallride that had a downhill runway for most of us. We sessioned that for a bit and then Nick ended up doing a dope gap to manual off this super narrow curb to a nice manual pad. We headed down to a gas station, so Gary could pump up a flat and Kym ended up sessioning a nice ledge to rail. By that time, the sun was going down and we started our pedal back to the apartment. After hanging out for a bit, we headed out to hit a few bars. It was a pretty chill night, but we had a blast. Chris Harrison from Federal was hanging out all day and their friend Charley was around as well. I’m doing this update in the morning and it’s a shit day, so we are going to head into London to do a bit of sight seeing.
Check out a bunch of photos after the jump. P.S. check out the riding photos and some real English food, just for Ali! Read the rest of this entry »

We had a great day today. Woke up, went for a walk and grabbed some breakfast, then came back to the apartment for some ping pong and then built our bikes and headed out to ride street. We are right down town, so we just rode from the apartment and hit so much stuff. We seriously only got like 20 min away from the apartment, but we got so many clips and rode till the sun went down. After riding we went out to find some Mexican food, but the spot we found was, by far, the worst Mexican restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. We wanted to grab some food for the rest of the week, so we hit the grocery store and met up with John Taylor and his girl back at the apartment. We’ve just been hanging out here this evening and we are going to ride more street in Brighton tomorrow.

Today was our travel day. We woke up, did a little souvenir shopping around Estonia, packed our things and headed to the Airport. Dan Lacy and Mark Love were on our flight, so we chilled with them for most of the day. Bas and Edd Allen where waiting for us at the airport and had just got back from a big Ikea run. Nick Halsey had flown in earlier in the day, so when we got to the apartment in Brighton, he was already there. After getting settled in John Taylor and his girl came over and we all went out to eat at a dialed Tai spot right down the street. It’s been dark the whole time we’ve been here so far, but from what we can see, Brighton is an amazing city and the seventies apartment is dialed! It’s a huge open plan two bedroom spot in this beautiful old brick building that’s been converted to apartments. We already got down on the ping-pong table for a bit and from the looks of things, Kym is going to be the man to beat.

Finals went down and they were absolutely nuts! Kym qualified 12th, so he was riding in the second group and Gary qualified 4th, so he rode in the last group. Kym started out super strong and threw down a massive variety of stuff from nothings down the big euro gap, a bunch of crazy lip tricks in the back bowl, some nice grinds and a huge tailwhip to superman seat grab straight to pedals over the box. It was rad to see Kym cover so much ground with such a variety of tricks. At the end of his run he was in first place with 9 riders to go.
Gary was one of the last people to ride and the amount of tricks he did in his first drop was easily more than most people did in their entire run. Gary started off on the street side working around on the jersey barriers and subs, then made his way the the euro gap and from there just took off around the park. One of my favorite moves he did was this crazy sideways nose wheelie on a sub-box into the hip. It’s really hard to explain, but you’ll see it on video. Gary blasted through the whole course every drop and for his last trick surprised everyone, including him self, with his first double tailwhip three-sixty. It took him a few tries, but he pulled is soooo clean and it was a great way to end his run.
After all the amazing riding that went down, it was impossible to tell who placed where, but after the final results came through, Kym pulled in 7th and Gary 2nd!! With a contest with over 75 riders and a riding level that is insane, that’s a serious accomplishment!! Congrats guys!
I’ll be putting an edit together with the highlights of Kym and Gary’s run, but for now you can check out some clips of Gary’s final run after the jump.
Check out a bunch of photos as well.

Qualifying went down on Saturday an we pretty much spend the whole day at the arena watching the 23 groups of 4 or 5 riders put in their time. The details are a bit foggy due to the fact that we just got back from finals, but Kym and Gary both made it in finals. Kym qualified 12th and Gary 4th. Those guys both got some rad stuff done, but they definitely held a bit back for finals. I’ll post tomorrow with all the photos from today, but Gary finished 2nd and Kym 7th. They both rode amazing in finals and had a blast.

We pretty much chilled all day today. We walked around Old Town again for a few hours, went to the mall for a bit, and ate food at a nice spot Kym went to before everyone else got here. Practice was in the evening, so we all pack in these two huge buses and drove to the stadium. The buses were soooo packed and I was sure i was going to get impaled by a pile of bikes. Practice was pretty fun, but super hectic. Lots of kids riding and some good stuff went down. I got some clips of Kym and Gary we all had a good time. We went out again and had a great time. The vibes were good and we don’t have anything to do in the morning, so everyone is psyched.

We didn’t really have much to do today, so we were able to spend it exploring the city. Estonia is split into two parts, the “old town” that consists of all the beautiful old buildings and small cobble stone streets and then the newer part of the city with shopping malls and more standard architecture. Kym, Nuno from Odyssey and I took off after breakfast and were able to make it to the Old Town before the snow started falling. We roamed around the streets, into some back alleys and found our way to the top of this hill where there was a lookout where you could see the whole city all and the way to the Baltic Sea.
After roaming around a bit, we headed back to the hotel just in time for Gary to arrive. He had just got off his flight and was dyeing for some food, so we hit up a little restaurant around the corner. After some food, we ran into Robin Fenlon back at the hotel and decided to check out the mall. It had really started snowing and no matter how many photos I shot, there was no way to capture how miserable it was outside. The rest of the day consisted of walking around in the snow. Hanging out at some pizza spot across the street from the hotel, more drinks at the spot we had lunch at, and then we all ended up at some dance club called Club Hollywood. Everyone had a great day and we are all psyched to ride bikes. Practice is later tonight and split into two groups to keep the course not so packed.
It’s 9am over here, so we are all going to head do for some breakfast and try to see what kind of trouble we can get into today.

Today and yesterday, or what feels like one really long day, have been travel days. I was supposed to fly out of Vancouver at 5:45pm but didn’t take off till 7:45 and or late departure put us in a bad spot in London, so after 11 hours on the plane we had to circle in the air for like 30 more minutes. After I finally got into London, I had to take a bus from London Heathrow to London Gatwick, then catch a flight from Gatwick to Estonia. It was a pretty damn long day, but I did have it pretty good. Full row’s to my self on both flights! Kym, on the other hand, spent 36 hours getting here and ran into way more obstacles… At least he got to sit next to the same hot girl on his 9 hour flight from Australia to Hong Kong, and then 12 hours from Hong Kong to London!

We finally got a blog back up and running. You can grab the new rss feed, sit back and enjoy a lot more updates! We’ll get some new posts up really soon and we’ll be doing some general archiving, gathering up all the bike checks, photos and videos from our trips over the past year as well.
I am off to Estonia tomorrow to meet up with Kym and Gary for the Simpel Sessions. We’ll be out there till Monday, then we are all heading over to London to do some filming with the Seventies crew and Nick Halsey is going to make the trip over from Seattle to London on the 28th to meet up with us. Seventies are renting a penthouse apartment in Brighton and we’ll be based out of there. Bas and Edd Allen are living there right now and there is a rumor of a ping pong table in the living room, so you know we are going to have a good time!
