“Darden’s back to 1981 birthday party… Lets get physical! Oakley Blades, Vans slip on, mullets, head bands, denim shorts, jean jackets, lace gloves… It was all there!! One word I did miss out is blackout… and I’m sure people did that back then as well… Have fun!”

Ali’s Birthday

img_0364.JPG

It was Ali’s Birthday on the 13th and he just sent over a rad email. Check it out!

“I have a little story for you. Back in Feb 2001 I was at Woodward with Jon Taylor and Baz Keep, I had just got on MacNeil, but hadn’t got anything other that stickers… Which I was well pumped on back then. We had been at Woodward for about a week and I had been talking to Jay about getting a frame. He said it might take a while to get through customs but I’ve sent you one… Well, Feb 13th came around and I was stoked! It was my birthday and I was at Woodward riding with my friends… I went into the office and I couldn’t believe what I saw… A massive MacNeil box with my name on it! I lost it and I ripped the box apart and found a sweet Miron frame and a bunch of parts. I couldn’t wait to strip my old bike down and build a new bike up!

Lets jump ahead to Feb 2008. I just turned 27 and guess what’s at the front door? Two massive MacNeil boxes with my name on em… still… haha!! They sent me a new teal 21″ Whitton frame and the new Blazer forks and some sweet parts… What a perfect birthday prezzie… It’s so amazing riding for MacNeil! There is nothing I would want more and to get packages from them still lights up my eyes. Thanks MacNeil for giving me some great memories over the years… check out my new bike… Plus we had a party and cake didn’t just get eaten…”

Ali’s the best and his bike looks dope! Check out some more pics after the jump… Happy Birthday man!

More Art From Travis

travis_collier_show.jpg

There is an art show going down tonight in Vancouver at El Kartel on Robson St. that Travis Collier is going to be in. It’s a benefit for the homeless in Vancouver and everyone that’s in it is painting a pair of PF Flyers that will be auctioned off. Travis is working on his shoes right now, so we’ll get pics up when he’s finished, but if you are in Vancouver you should check out the show. It starts at 8pm tonight.

California in December Video

cali_december2.jpg

In December, Travis Collier our friend Chris Martindale and I went down to California to escape the cold winter. If you follow the site, you would of seen our posts about the trip, but if not, we hung out with a bunch of awesome people and had a great time. I picked up a new video camera while I was down there and this is the first edit I put together with it. We also just put together a new video page with archives of all our videos.

Check it out the new video page here. And check out the California in December video here.

Travis Collier in Ride

travis_collier_ride_2.jpg

When Travis and I were down in Cali in December, Travis hooked up with Jeff Z to shoot a few photos. Jeff’s idea was to shoot a photo of himself shooting a photo and then outline everything that goes on behind the lens. The spot the photo was shot at had this dope fountain in the background, but just as Jeff and Travis were ready to shoot the fountain shut off… You can kind of see the fountain in the background of the photo on the right. None the less, they pushed on and both photos turned out great. You can check the real thing in the latest issue of Ride BMX.

Brighton Day 7 – Final day

ii9o9941.jpg

So, the trip is over for most of us and we are back home. Kym extended his ticket and is going to be chilling in Brighton ’till the end of the month, filming a full part with those guys. On our last day we started it out at a small park by the water and had a pretty good warm-up session. It seems like every day we rode we never made it that far from the house and this day was a perfect example. After the park, we ventured like 100 yards and rode some curved wallrides for a bit and messed around around the city till dark. We ended up at this rail-hop and this wild triple set. Gary and Kym both put some good clips down on the rail-hop and Nick got a dope clip jumping from the top of the triple set to the bank next to the lower stair set. After some nice dinner by the water, we went back to the apartment, pack up and headed out for our last night on the town. It was pretty dead cus it was a Monday, but we still ended up hanging out till 4:30am making our 8:00am wakeup come really fast. Our travel day was pretty straight forward and we all got home ok.

Big thanks goes out to Bas, Edd Allen, Jon Taylor and Stu Dawkins for putting us up and showing us a great time. We had a blast and hopefully we can make it back before they move out. Edd is going to work on a web video with all of our footage when Kym leaves in a few weeks, so keep an eye out for that… For now, make sure to follow Kym and the rest of the guys on the Brighton blog – brightonaintready.blogspot.com
