Bibi sent in another video – this particular one is with Bibi riding his new prototype frame. This is the first trails frame that we've ever made, and we've taken this one to the next level. Alex Dropsy says Bibi is just killing all the lines at their trails, and this video proves he's not holding anything back testing this 4.6 lb frame... That's right 4.6 lbs. We were going to keep the weight of this frame secret for a while since we're still testing the prototypes, but since we've received so many emails about it we thought we'd just tell you. It's still in the prototype stages but we're confident we've developed a way to make a frame this light and still strong. Now check out that video. Click here to check out the video (5.6MB QuickTime file)
We put Wade Lajlar (pronounced Lai-Lar) on the team a while ago, and we seriously have pictures of him piling up all over the place. The fact that he's one of our local guys here in Vancouver helps a lot, so for those of you that don't know who Wade is, here's a few pics. He goes big and is super-smooth. He also made the finals at last year's Vancouver Metro Jam, his first ever pro contest where he pulled his first ever attempt at a flipwhip just about as clean as it can be done... not to bad. Anyway, Wade's always a real treat to watch at the local parks, and he not only makes things look ridiculously easy, but really damn good at the same time. Here's a few more pictures, and plenty more of him to come. If you're familiar with the MFP gap at the Seylynn skatepark, then you know this superman is nuts Invert at the Kirkstone Park in North Vancouver

Mogwai was in town last night to play the Commodore Ballroom, and it was fucking fantastic. In usual fashion, they played really loud, then turned it up, then cranked it, then broke the dial off at 11, then they just fuckin' gaver 'er for the last 20+ minutes of the show. My ears will be ringing for the next couple days for sure, but it was worth it. If you've never seen Mogwai live, treat yourself to it. Here's a few more pics from last night's show, not the greatest pics, but what the hell, I thought I'd share 'em with you, and the colors are real 'perdy:

May 10, 2006 Okay, so we've gone MIA... not really, we've just been super busy over the last few weeks. Like crazy busy... working on some sweet stuff, and we'll have some announcements coming up really soon. We're also coming off of one of the rainiest winters/springs in history, so we're out riding a bunch too. This is a pretty big update all at once, and we'll put up another one with the rest of the team guys in the next couple days too. The team guys have been sending us news and pictures lately, and they've all just been sitting in my inbox collecting virtual dust. Sorry guys, we'll get all that stuff up over the next couple of days. We'll start off this news update with news from Bibi... Since he almost died, he gets to go first. From the sounds of things Bibi was on a flight home from doing shows in Colombia (South America) when one of the the... I’ll let Bibi tell it in his own words. "My trip, it was insane, so good, good people, good place to visit. Crazy partys on a crazy island, good dives in this island... All was perfect. Just some trouble with the plane on my way back. Between Calis and Miami, we got some flames in the engine... Crazy man, so a big curve as ever in a plane and urgent landing with the fire department on the tarmac... crazy man." Crazy indeed.
In other Bibi news, he’s testing the first prototype of his new signature trails frame and he's loving it. It’s the light-ass trails frame that is just what Bibi has been asking for. Jay’s also riding a prototype of it too (here's a picture of the frame that Jay's riding), putting it together just before he went down to California. Now all we need are some more pictures of Bibi riding it at his massive local trails. Check back soon for those and maybe some pics of Jay's new bike (which he is also loving). Here's the specs for Bibi's trails frame: (so that you can email us asking what the specs are) · Top tube - 20.75” top tube, 13.5” chainstay
In other new product news... We've got some new grips in the works. We've got Jay and Wade Lajlar riding some of the samples, and they're loving them. Not too thin, not too thick, soft rubber and they have a houndstooth pattern on them... check the detail picture. They'll be shipping later in the summer.
Mike Parenti makes an appearance on the cover of the new Ride. Mike is really good friends with Gary, and happens to be riding a Young frame, which would make 2 out of the last 3 Ride covers with people riding a Young frame (Gary had the other a couple issues back). I'm guessing on this one, but I'm pretty sure that this makes Parenti the only rider currently on the cover of a magazine that's getting married this Saturday. Congratulations in advance from all of us to Mike and his fiance, Alice.
Gary Young and Morgan Wade just got back from filming Red Bull Mean Streets II in the LA/San Diego/Vegas area where they were out with filmer Ryan Navazio and Ride photographer Ryan Fudger. I just called Gary to get the scoop on what he's been up to lately – and he's been busy, and there's plenty more busy in his near future. I got a hold of him right after his fiance Sarah's college graduation ceremony, so congrats go out to Sarah. Speaking of Sarah, Gary just bought her a new car. Not sure if it's a graduation gift or not, but either way, that's just awesome. Here's what Gary's schedule looks like for the next couple month... Next Saturday is Mike wedding, so there's no way Gary's gonna miss that, then he's off to Woodward East to hook up with Ali and Jay to film some stuff for Sportskool, then off to do Road Fools 15, then the CFB comp in Oklahoma City, and then off to the Dew Tour. In between some of these things Gary's gonna be chilling at home in SD and hanging out with Sarah.
Ali is currently in England for round 2 of the Roundabout tour... If you’re not in the know... roundaboutbrand.com is the place to be. Doesn’t sound like he is going to have a chance to see the family while he is there but they’ll be in the US this summer checking out his new place complete with “dinosaurs” as Ali describes the turtles that he ran over while mowing his back 40. Here's a couple more random pictures of what's going on in his world... Another picture of the turtles | Ali put together a new bike a little while ago | Here's a picture of Ali's other new ride | Ali's stoked that his new rides match
While we're talking about England... Robin sent us a little update on his situation. “We are going on the second Roundabout Tour on Friday, a 2 week UK tour, how about that! You wouldn't think it was big enough. Roundabout is going pretty good, i haven't had much time to concentrate on it. The next tour is going to be shown on TV in 52 countries around the world.” The funny thing about this is that Robin describes himself as unemployed or has he prefers to call it, 'freelance'. Sounds like he has his hands full to us. Here's a few other pictures that I forgot I have of Robin from the Toronto Metro. There were several spontaneous soccer (sorry Robin, 'football') matches during the building of the course in Toronto, and of course with Robin repping the UK, he had a reputation to maintain. Dave Freimuth is hosting another BACO Jam this weekend. This time it's going down at the Jellystone Campground in Warrens, Wisconsin. The actual dates are May 19 –21. The Jellystone skatepark is pretty new, and has a rad concrete park. Check out more pics of the park at their site jellystonewarrens.com or here neighborhoodskatepark.com. Here's a quick overview of the schedule: bike session friday night, pro comp and bowl jam on saturday, and the am comp goes down on Sunday. Besides the riding, theirs the BBQ, 2 water parks, mini golf, hot tubs, and man made lakes to occupy your time. Sounds like this place was created just for hosting a BACO event.
In other Freimuth news, he just bought a house in Appleton a little while ago. Congrats Dave. Here's a couple more pics of Chez Freimuth... pic 1 | pic 2 He’s been busy moving into his new house, taking care of Thompson and getting his knee back up to strength. He had his first session since the surgery last week and says it feels good and that he’s looking forward to riding the Baco Jam with everybody.
Our Japanese bad ass Shoe-G has been riding a lot and representing at all of the Japanese comps. Here’s a picture of him at the X Games park in Japan. Shoe-G sent us some video clips of him gettin' the flair done... this particular flair looks/sounds like it's a flair to icepick. (1.5MB QuickTime .mov file)
Harrison has had his hands full with work, riding and keeping on top of his website, DefGrip. If you haven’t check it out yet, you should, it’s hot and if you don’t have a computer you can read about the site on page 47 of the latest issue of Ride BMX. Check that grill bitch... dope. If you haven't seen the pic in the mag yet, it looks kinda like this, but not really at all.
The elusive Josh Nendza sent us over a couple of pics. He’ll be representing at the Baco Jam this weekend. If you happen to be at the at the comp, you'll have to check out the new bike he's riding. Hopefully we'll be able to wrestle a couple of pics of it out of him. Since moving to PA, Josh has been digging at the trails, and riding as much as possible. Speaking of digging, Josh is coming up to BC to hang out for a month in the next few weeks, so we're stoked to be hanging out with him while he's up here.
Sexy Nick Halsey is touring the west coast doing demos. Random fact about Nick. He carries a foldable can opener in his wallet because according to him “Canned food is the perfect food, just open it and eat it and there’s no dishes to do.”
Jay just got back from California where he took his new bike with him, but he didn't do much riding. He's a corporate, suit-wearing bitch nowadays, so he doesn't have to ride his bike. Last month Jay moved into a new place in Yaletown, which if you've ever been to Vancouver, you’ll know as the area where hot girls parade around in mini skirts and titty shirts. He’s in the middle of renovating right now so we’ll get some pics when it’s all done and maybe we’ll post a few shots of his new neighbors. Next week the boss, as he likes to refer to himself, will be at Woodward East in PA with Alistair and Gary doing some filming for Sport Skool sportskool.com.
Happy birthday Jason Enns. Jason officially became an old man last Thursday, turning the odometer to 3-0. Jason had a party out at his house on Saturday, and he had the spread fully set up. A huge BBQ, cupcakes and a huge tower of Budweiser all on Jason's tab. Thanx man, that was good, maybe too good. Pretty much most of the BMX scene of Vancouver and area was there to celebrate, and Jason took us all out to one of his local haunts where he did the biggest shot I've ever seen. All in, it was an 8-shot in one, and he took it back like a pro. Dave Osato (with Sigaty) was out, and sporting a cowboy hat, but he and Johnny had to jump on a flight first thing in the morning to go to the BACO tour.
By now you'll have noticed that we have put a shipping date (a vague one) on all of the pictures of the new products on our site so that you don’t have to bother sending e-mails asking when the products will be out. We’re sure we’ll still get a bunch of e-mails about this, but that’s better than the hundreds that we usually get. Speaking of which, if you sent us an e-mail in the last few weeks and had to wait longer than usual for a response, it was most likely due to some assholes thieves smashing in our front door and making off with all of our computers... nice. We’re all caught up now, sorry to anyone who was waiting.
check out April's news here.
